It was very important to me that my documentary and ancillary tasks worked in harmony with elements that tie them to together and relate to one another. I made a documentary that I planned to release through VICELAND so I had to market my Newspaper advertisement and design my Double Page Spread in the correct style that is relevant and poplar with VICELAND shows. To convey the same message and gist of my documentary through all three mediums. |

During the planning stage of my ancillary tasks I looked at many different sources of information I looked a listings magazines such as radio times to see how a double page spread is traditionally made. And I looked at a smaller local independent magazine to see how they covered a music festival in their magazine. This is relevant to my documentary as my documentary talks of live music in the local Bristol area. I took inspiration from both of the different styles. While remembering the channel I would release my documentary VICELAND. |

I really liked the use of drop caps and how it engages the reader to start reading the article. As well as the use of large key images it is really effective in engage the reader, drawing them into the article whilst informing them of the subject. The use of pull quotes also does something very similar and means that the audience gain greater insight into the article. The use of clear black or white titles once again is a element that positively effects the double page spread and makes it an effective example. Something I didn’t like about the listings magazine style was how they tend to use mainly stills from the shows their displaying rather then taking new additional photographs for the magazine. This means the subject isn’t always displayed in high quality photography something I wanted to do. |

With my final double page spread I used a clean simple colour scheme which surrounded a large high quality key image, this is something I have with my newspaper advertisement as well which allows the audience to connect the subjects theme of Bristol focused gig culture, Both photograph I took are of important gig venues in Bristol. I have also used the same titles in my Double Page Spread, Newspaper Advertisement and My actual documentary this combinations is highly effective as it means that people will connect the three and grow interest as they see them in their own mediums. This allows them to be more effective and have stronger continuity. In the top left corner I have placed the shows information such as time and date it is premiered, channel and the simple title this allows readers to find out where they would watch the show and is something found in all listing magazines so that all readers can look up such information, making it effective as a combination as it relates to the documentary. A similarity between my double page spread and newspaper advertisement is that I have detailed the channel which the documentary will be released, making it a more effective piece of media text as there is continuity. Doing this |

In my documentary I used this bright bold colour scheme throughout. I also kept the continuity of iconic Bristol venues throughout the opening sequence of my documentary. My title is the same as the one of both of my ancillary texts creating an effective use of combinations. My interviews were shot medium range and meant that peoples faces were in full detail as well as providing insight into the persona and surroundings. |
