Be wary that you are not falling into the trap of describing the trailer rather than analysing it. Make sure you are discussing why techniques, shots and devices are used, rather than identifying what is used. It would also help to break up your analysis into sections – e.g. a section on camera, a section on editing etc. This will guard against narrative description as you won’t be discussing the text from start to finish but picking out relevant examples.
Lenses Film Feedback
“Alright” prelim task feedback. A really nice effort on this prelim task- I particularly enjoyed the tongue in cheek script- but more notable was the controlled use of camera work. At times this works really effectively, drawing focus from one object to another, though this does need tightening in places too; In your establishing shot the focus should pull from the wooden railing to the figure as he approaches the building, and later when sitting down the focus is out too. Your match on action is excellent though and the film flows fluidly. Strong first effort.
Evaluation Practice
How is your coursework concept rooted in and related to real products? My coursework project is related to many real products that have a similar storylines like Taken, in which Liam Newson's daughters has been abducted and taken hostage, and Kidnapped in which Halle Berry's kid is taken hostage and she spends that film tracking the kidnapper down. Another film with a similar plot is Prisoners in which the main character played by 'Hugh Jackman' has his children taken away from and spends the film tracking down the kidnapped. This shows that films with these plots can be well done and are successful, meaning they are popular.
What key learning point have you taken from your prelim task? I learnt that action matching is a very successful cut, and looks very professional. I have also learn that planning is essential to the success of a media project, and without a thorough shooting schedule, prop and kit list, and storyboards
What technical changes do you need to make between projects for success? I need to pick up the pace with writing so that I can complete all my work on time.
